Fifth Sunday in Lent

Let the one without sin cast the first stone ...

Has no one condemned you?

Go, and sin no more.

The Prodigal Son

On March 18, the fourth Sunday in Lent, Laetare Sunday, the Gospel reading is the familar account in Luke that is described as 'The Prodigal Son'.

Questions for reflection:

What do we mean by 'Prodigal'?

Why do we not hear from the the Mother?

Would we react as the older son did?

........................................

What a wonderful chapter in Luke.. 'The Lost and Found stories'

Friday - Remember the Marvels the Lord has done

March 9, 2007
Friday of the Second Week of Lent

Responsorial PsalmPs 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21

R. (5a) Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

When the LORD called down a famine on the land
and ruined the crop that sustained them,
He sent a man before them,Joseph, sold as a slave.

R. Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

They had weighed him down with fetters, and he was bound with chains,
Till his prediction came to pass and the word of the LORD proved him true.

R. Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

The king sent and released him, the ruler of the peoples set him free.
He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions.

R. Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

Second Week of Lent

The daily readings remind us of the struggle we have to follow the commandments and serve God in our daily lives.

Here in Sharon, Massachusetts, the community is comprised of people of many faiths and cultures and traditions. The spirit of respect for each tradition is the work of all.

And our discipline of fasting and prayer are the essential components by which we strive to love and serve our neighbors.

Transfiguration Sunday

It is the Second Sunday in Lent, with the gospel from Luke describing the ‘Transfiguration’ event on the mountain with Peter, James, and John.

It is a tradition that this Gospel is read in Lent because it was thought that the event took place forty days before Passover.

Attendance was back to more normal levels after the school vacation hiatus.

The days ahead loom challenging and filled with new tasks.

It's Friday ... the first Week of Lent - 2007

A very quiet day ensued today.

I did meet with a young couple wishing to baptize their daughter. They live in a near by town and are now looking for a parish and community to worship.

We will meet again next week.

The story of Imam Masood continues with the article in the Patriot Ledger chronicling his history.

And so we plan for the second Sunday in Lent. We prepare for all that there will be.
